Q. Can I take part in the competition if I do not have a kayaking one-star certificate? / Can I take part in the competition if I had taken the one-star kayaking course but lost the certificate?

All participants involved in the kayaking segment are required to have at least a SCF 1 Star Award Personal Skill certification or equivalent.  However if the participant is only involved in the RUNNING segment of the ‘Team Relay’ category, then we do not require the participant to possess a 1 Star Award certification.

Confirmation of registration would entail the receipt of the scanned copy of participants’ SCF 1 Star Award Personal Skill certification or equivalent to legsandpaddles11@gmail.com. Thus, participants will need the certificate as proof of having taken and passed the course.

If you do not have at least a one-star certificate, NUS Canoeing Club organizes 1-Star Certification courses through our coaches. Please visit nuscanoeing.wordpress.com for more details.

Alternatively, you may also take your 1-Star Certification through other agencies likes SCF, Paddle Culture and WaterVenture.

The rationale for this is to ensure the safety of all the participants and safety kayakers in the water as well as fulfil the safety requirements of NUS and the various organisations.

Q. Other than registering for the event, what are the other things/ forms that I need to do/ submit?

  • Confirmation of registration would entail the receipt of the following:
  • Completion of registration form, indemnity form and swimming declaration form.
  • Payment of registration fees to the organizers of LNP 2011.
  • Submission of scanned copy of participants’ SCF 1 Star Award Personal Skill certification or equivalent to legsandpaddles11@gmail.com.
Participants are required to:

  • Bring their SCF 1 Star Award Personal Skill certification or equivalent for verification.
  • Submit their completed indemnity forms and swimming declaration forms when collecting their LNP 2011 race packs.
Q. Am I allowed to bring my own equipments to use for the competition?

For participants in the ‘Challenge’ and ‘Team Relay’ categories, all kayaks, paddles and PFDs (personal floatation devices) used in the event will be provided by the organizers of LNP 2011. Participants are encouraged to use the equipment provided.

For teams competing in the ‘Institutional’ category, they are allowed to bring their own kayaks (a maximum of 4 T1-boats) to participate in the race and they will be liable for their own transportation fees.

The organizers will not be liable for any damages/lost of personal equipment brought by participants on the event day. However if the teams decide not to bring their own kayaks, the LNP committee will then provide the equipments. The LNP committee will not entertain any disputes resulting from the discrepancies of the kayaks should the institutional participants choose not to bring their own.

Q. Will I get any refunds if I decide to withdraw from the race after payment and before the race?

Participants will only be entitled to refunds under the following conditions:
  • Cancellation of category due to insufficient number of participants in a particular category.
  • Refusal of a registration accompanied with registration fee.
Other than the above 2 situations stated, no refunds will be guaranteed to the participant should he/she decide to withdraw from the race after confirmation of registration.

Q. What are the prizes awarded for each category?

Only the top three positions from each race categories will be awarded medals and prizes. More information on the prizes will be updated.

Q.When can I collect my race-pack? Where am I supposed to go to collect my race pack? I am unable to go down personally to collect the race pack, can someone else collect the race-pack for me?

The race pack collection will be on 27 May 2011. It will be from 10am to 5pm in NUS at the Sports and Recreational Centre. However, please visit the website regularly for any updates or changes.

If you are unable to go down personally to collect the race pack, you can authorize someone you trust to collect on your behalf. Just fill up the Letter of authorization form http://docs.google.com/View?id=dftwxskw_23fbjjb7n5 and ask the person to bring it along with your completed indemnity form and swimming declaration form during the collection period.

Q. What kind of kayaks and paddles will we be using for Legs and Paddles 2011?

For the purposes of the race, we will be using single slaloms for LNP Challenge, and double slaloms for Team Relay race. As for paddles, we will be using Symmetrical, Spoon-bladed paddles. Participants of the Institutional category are allowed to bring their own kayaks and paddles.

Q. Will there be any left-handed paddles available for left-handed participants?
